RecipeRelay’s 1st Birthday!
by Sarah A. Maine & Brianna Bain
Today is a very special day! It is RecipeRelay’s 1st Birthday, and we are very, very excited to celebrate it with you! It was one year ago this week that we published our first recipe, igniting the flame of seasonal recipe inspiration around the world. Thanks to you, our readers and contributors, we have accomplished more than we could have ever imagined in one year. We have published fifty seasonal recipes, and forty seasonal cocktails derived from a combined total of 90 inspirational ingredients. Contributors have joined the Relay from across the United States and the world, and RecipeRelay has touched readers in 47 US states and 51 countries.

RecipeRelay also grew internally with the addition of two amazing Interns who helped us take leaps and bounds in securing RecipeRelay’s fabulousness! Many thanks go to Jessie and Megan for their hard work and passion for good food.
We have been able to expand our posting schedule to bring you more information to help you with your seasonal cooking and eating: our Wednesday Tips & Guides have addressed topics ranging from How to Get the Most Out of Your Farmers Market to Tips for Starting a Compost Bin to our featured collaboration with the Butcher’s Guild. We have loved curating these posts and we hope they have been fun and useful for you too. If you have any ideas for topics that we should tackle please let us know, either leave us a comment or send us an email through our contact page. We look forward to hearing from you.
We had our first giveaway with one of our favorite food producers – King Arthur Flour, who gave one lucky RecipeRelay reader a sweet bag of baking loot! We’ll be experimenting with other product giveaways from companies that we value so keep your eyes peeled for future contests!
RecipeRelay also felt the media love this past year through interviews on Good Food Jobs’ Gastrognomes Blog, Food + Tech Connect, and a lovely radio interview with Heirloom Meals. We were also honored to participate on the Social Kitchen panel at Food + Tech’s Food 2.0 conference, part of Internet Week NY 2011. We appreciate every opportunity to spread the word about seasonal cooking and recipe inspiration – thanks so much to everyone who has helped us share our story and our passion.
Now for the best part! To celebrate all of this we are giving everyone a present! Our birthday present to you is a compilation of last Summer’s recipes that we are calling the RecipeRelay Summer Replay. We hope this will help jump start your summer cooking creativity, click the button below to download the full PDF and don’t forget to report back on your cooking adventures!
We are looking forward to more delicious excitement in the coming year. We hope you keep coming back for more and that you keep spreading the good word about cooking with seasonal and local ingredients in your own communities. Come back on Thursday for a special birthday edition of RecipeRelay… there will be cupcakes, need we say more?
